At Genesiv, we believe in breaking down these language barriers to foster an inclusive, multicultural community space. Our language and translation features are designed to ensure that everyone feels heard and understood, regardless of their language preferences.

This article will delve into these language and translation features, detailing how you can leverage them to create a diverse and welcoming community for all.

To start with Language & Translations, first head into the language settings page in your community settings.

Default Language

Select the default language of your community. Genesiv automatically displays your community, your login, and register pages in users' default browser languages, offering a personalized, user-friendly experience from the get-go.

However, sometimes the platform is unable to detect a user's browser language, for reasons such as

  1. The user's browser settings are configured not to share language preferences.
  2. The user is utilizing a VPN or proxy which alters the detected location and language settings.
  3. The browser language setting differs from the operating system's language setting, causing a discrepancy.
  4. The user's browser language is set to a language that Genesiv does not currently support.

In such cases, the platform's language will default to your default community language. To set your default language, simply click on the dropdown menu and choose your default community language from the list of support languages.

AI Translations

With automatic message translations, you can bridge communication gaps between members who speak different languages. Our AI translations are powered by Chat-GPT and helps to translate community content into each member's desired destination language.

To begin with turning your community into a global space, first turn on your AI message Translations.

Token Usage

As our translations are powered by Chat-GPT, each translation completed will use up 'tokens'. Tokens are units of measurement used by the OpenAI API to count the amount of text processed. In essence, a token can represent a character or a word, depending on the language. The more complex or lengthy the translation, the more tokens it may require, affecting how many translations can be performed with a set number of tokens. Managing and understanding your token usage can help optimize your translation operations within our community.

Supported Languages

Next, choose the languages that you wish to support within your community. Message Translations will happen from, and to languages that you have chosen to be supported. The more languages that your community supports, the more tokens you will potentially use. In the context of translations, both the input and the output count towards the token limit.​

When you add a new supported language to your community, you should consider that all messages in that language might potentially be translated to all other supported languages. It's advisable to start with a few essential languages based on your user base and then assess your token consumption over time. From there, you can make an informed decision about adding more languages or adjusting your current selection.

Community Context

Since Genesiv's AI Translations utilize ChatGPT, providing community context will help make translations more accurate. For instance, if your community revolves around a specific topic like technology or sports, supplying relevant keywords and phrases can guide the AI towards more precise translations. This helps ensure that the subtleties and nuances of your community's discussions aren't lost in translation, facilitating more meaningful and engaging interactions among members across different languages.​
